Visit to the UK with the Deputy Speakers of the Ontario Legislature
It was a particularly fruitful visit to the UK with the Deputy Speakers of the Ontario Legislature. It was fascinating to learn more about Westminster's original Parliament and how our own parliament is modeled after it.
We had the opportunity to learn more about the UK Parliament at the House of Lords of the United Kingdom. As the upper house of Parliament, the House of Lords has many similar functions to the House of Commons. It scrutinizes legislation, holds the government to account, and considers and reports upon public policy. Peers may also seek to introduce legislation or propose amendments to bills.
