Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024 – Safety Tips

This Monday, April 8, 2024, the Moon’s orbit will position it directly between the Earth and the Sun, causing a solar eclipse. While other areas will experience a total eclipse, in Ottawa the eclipse will not be total—the maximum will be approximately 99 percent, lasting for two to three minutes starting at 3:25 pm.

Because there is no total eclipse in Ottawa, there is no safe time to look at the Sun without appropriate eye protection. It’s important to keep your safety in mind during this event.

You can visit OttawaPublicHealth.ca/SolarEclipse to learn more about staying safe during the eclipse.
