40th Anniversary of the Ottawa Food Bank: A Reminder of the Urgent Need to End Hunger

This morning, I had the privilege of attending the 40th-anniversary event of the Ottawa Food Bank. Founded in 1984, what began as a temporary solution has unfortunately become a long-term necessity due to the increasing need within our community. As stated in their 2023 Hunger Report, the demand for food support has risen by 68% over the past five years, highlighting the persistent issue of food insecurity in Ottawa.

While this milestone is not one to celebrate, it serves as a reminder of the urgent work ahead to end hunger in our city by 2050. We must continue to support initiatives like the Ottawa Food Bank and advocate for broader systemic changes to address the root causes of food insecurity. Together, let's strive for a future where no one in our community goes hungry.
