July 30th - Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Today, we observe the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to raise awareness about human trafficking and to promote and protect the rights of trafficking victims. Together, we must take action to end this scourge and support those affected.

My Bill 41, the Protection from Coerced Debts Incurred in relation to Human Trafficking Act, 2023, aims to cancel debts incurred by survivors under coercion—an often overlooked but critical aspect of their recovery.

My bill received unanimous support from all parties at Queen’s Park in 2024. This legislation is vital in helping survivors rebuild their lives and sending a clear message: exploitation has no place in our society. On this Human Rights Day, I reaffirm my commitment to fighting human trafficking and upholding fundamental rights for all.
