Honoring the SOSMontfort Movement

I had the privilege of attending a celebration marking the anniversary of a pivotal moment in our Franco-Ontarian history: the March 22, 1997 rally of the SOSMontfort movement. Led by Gisèle Lalonde, this movement fought to save Montfort Hospital, Ontario’s only primarily Francophone hospital, from closure. Their success not only preserved an essential healthcare institution but also affirmed the strength and resilience of the Franco-Ontarian community.

Created by Montfort in 2004 in a limited edition of 22, the March 22nd Medal recognizes Francophone builders, advocates, and leaders who hold the hospital close to their hearts. Congratulations to Dr. Bernard Leduc, who received the 14th medal.
