Respecting Local School-Board Governance and Fair Collective Bargaining

As students return to school, Queen’s Park should be supporting our school boards — not taking more decisions away from them.

Local communities understand their students, educators and staffing needs. This is particularly important for Ontario’s French-language school boards, whose management and control rights are constitutionally protected.

With the Legislature not returning until the end of October, I’m not waiting to raise these concerns. I’ve written to the Minister of Education asking him to respect local bargaining, protect school-board governance and address the classroom challenges that require government action and proper funding.
